A leading high-powered mobile router supports FirstNet, Built with AT&T users’ critical communications at the edge of the network and in urban areas with poor connectivity.
SAN DIEGO, March 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Today, Nextivity – an industry leader in intelligent cellular coverage DAS solutions – announced that the SHIELD MegaFi 2, a 5G-enabled HPUE mobile router with advanced capabilities, is available to public safety agencies and organizations on FirstNet®, Built with AT&T. This FirstNet MegaRange™ solution is a HPUE 5G multiport router that operates on all AT&T commercial spectrum bands, as well as Band 14 – the nationwide, high-quality spectrum set aside by the government specifically for FirstNet. The device has 6x the transmit power of standard routers and serves the critical communication needs of first responders, the public safety ecosystem, and vital enterprises.
Developed using the knowledge and experience of both the FirstNet team at AT&T and Nextivity – who jointly introduced HPUE technology to the marketplace in 2021 – the MegaFi 2 is feature-rich and future-ready. Features include:
- 5G connectivity on all AT&T commercial bands
- Simple, remote upgrade path to 5G on Band 14
- LCD status screen
- Remote management for organization-wide visibility
- Mobile (vehicle-mounted), fixed (in-building), and portable solutions available
- Dual-SIM capability (coming soon via software update)
“SHIELD MegaFi 2 is built on a flexible platform that allows our customers to adapt to changing communications needs and network updates. The streamlined architecture, large number of ports, screen, and the ability to add features via software-only updates offers users a good experience on a very powerful 5G-enabled device. With MegaFi2, Nextivity and AT&T are equipping public safety with much-needed HPUE technology that is ready for 5G and addresses customer challenges. The support for dual SIMs adds a layer of redundancy for our first responders by giving them peace of mind, no matter where they go,” said Michiel Lotter, CEO at Nextivity.
“The current MegaFi products provide connectivity to places otherwise considered offline. We’re pleased to add 5G speed to our powerful Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities,” said Lotter.
Beyond first responders and the FirstNet community, this HPUE solution is also available to utilities, financial institutions, remote data centers, transportation-related businesses, retail, and other enterprises with remote-monitored infrastructure. These enterprise entities can utilize the benefits of Band 14 when there is extra capacity available.
All SHIELD MegaFi products have wide market applicability where people, devices, and data need to be connected, especially when on-the-go or in remote areas. When using Band 14, MegaFi transmits up to 6x more power than standard equipment – providing more signals in more places and closing the cellular coverage gap between urban and suburban/rural areas. This increased signal can only be transmitted using Band 14 spectrum to which AT&T has the exclusive rights for FirstNet.
Extra “uplink” power means MegaFi is able to create a hotspot over a much wider range when connected to Band 14.
The SHIELD MegaFi 2 is exclusively available for purchase through AT&T sales channels. Like all Nextivity products, MegaFi 2 is supported by the company’s extensive partner network who will install and integrate the device into existing IT ecosystems.
